Why don't we have a word for this?

Moon over Madison,CT II

This question on Quora sees a person looking for an English word for a ray of light across water. Apparently the Turkish word yakamoz means the path of moonlight across water, and the querent was surprised there wasn't an English equivalent.

Come to think of it, so am I.

I mean, seriously, we have a word to describe the seal on the end of a shoelace but don't have one to describe a natural phenomenon which has struck our ancestors with its beauty for thousands of years? This seems remiss.

The asker has coined "shimmerlane", which sounds a bit Tolkein for my liking but does the job much better than anything I can think of right now.

So, over to you - what should we call the moon's silvery ribbon laid soft upon the velvet waves?

And what else should we have a word for, but don't?
