Dancing in circles

Due to the Queensland floods, I will be very busy at work for quite some time. So this blog doesn't go completely to pot, I'm scheduling some of my old (very old, in this case) poems to keep things ticking over. If you leave a comment, I may not get back to you for some time.

This was apparently written as lyrics to a song, hence the rather strange rhythm and endless repetition. Other than a vague snatch of Celtic-ish melody for the 'dancing in circles at the end of the day' line, I cannot remember at all how it's supposed to go.

I miss you
I need you
You're breaking my heart
It's been so many years since I've seen you
Do you ever
remember
before you went away

We were dancing in circles
at the end of the day.

Five years now
and counting
and dreading the same
and imagining you'll be returning
I wait like a puppy for your step on the stair

We'll be dancing in circles
at the end of the day.

I need you
I miss you
You've broken my heart.
I know that you'll not be returning.
I'll be waiting forever for you to come home

No more dancing in circles
at the end of the day.
